Fredericks
About This Spot
Nestled just off the bustling heart of San Francisco’s Union Square district, Fredericks greets you with the calm rhythm of an early morning sanctuary. Here, mornings begin gently, and the hum of quiet conversations blends effortlessly with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Whether stepping in before sunrise or wandering over for a midday pause, the pace invites you to linger just a bit longer amid its warm, sunlit corners.
The space carries the subtle charm of a polished neighborhood café, where familiar faces might exchange smiles alongside travelers discovering the city’s morning secrets for the first time. The friendly baristas and attentive staff create a quietly supportive atmosphere—one where the day starts with thoughtful care as much as carefully prepared fare.
What truly shapes the experience at Fredericks is the approachable yet refined take on morning meals and coffee rituals. It’s a place where classic flavors are given a gentle contemporary nudge—a perfectly crisp avocado toast that somehow feels both simple and meticulously layered, or eggs prepared just the way you hoped without fuss or flash. There’s comfort in unexpected attentiveness, like an extra touch of warmth in a hot cappuccino or a plate arriving with a humble side of delightfully crisp homemade chips.
As the day unfolds, Fredericks keeps that steady, inviting tone. It’s not merely about grabbing breakfast or a coffee, but about finding a thoughtful moment of calm in a lively city pulse—yes, with occasional nods to local flavors and seasonal shifts. It’s a spot where the familiar can still surprise you, and morning routines feel a little more intentional.

It was nice that we could have breakfast early (6:30 AM) because it was connected to the hotel. We were hungry early because of the 3-hour time difference. We couldn't help but be surprised when we ordered food. When we checked the receipt, there was an 18% service charge and an 11% food tax added on top. I felt that it was different in the city. However, the taste of the Avocado toast, California Shakshouka, chocolate croissant, and all the bagels we ordered satisfied our taste buds.

You can’t miss this place for breakfast or coffee. We stayed at The Clift for 4 nights and we went every day. Everything from bread, omelette to avocado toast was amazing. The service from the baristas and server was great as well. Armando is a great guy and recommend to have a chat with him about SF if you want to hear cool stories.

We had an excellent breakfast at Frederick’s! The food was fresh, flavorful, and they even offered gluten-free toast, which was a great option. The staff was super attentive and friendly—the guy overseeing everything brought us complimentary homemade potato chips that were light, crispy, and absolutely fantastic. It’s such a welcoming spot with great food and great service. We’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely lovely place for breakfast. I like that they are open early at 6:30, we ordered cappuccino ( which they made very hot as we requested), my mom got an omelet and I ordered their Shakshouka, both dishes were amazing. Great hot breakfast for December morning.

The food is a bit expensive, but the quality was excellent. The service was very professional and attentive, the space was clean and the food was delicious. What took my family and I by surprise was how delicious the avocado toast was. It seems like something that simple can only be so excellent, but every component elevated the dish to a point where I would consider it the very best avocado toast I’ve ever had.

Had the Eggs Benedict. I thought it was really tasty. Husband had the Union Jack sandwich. It was huge. Only negative might be the prices, which are fairly high.
